  • Kitchen Volunteers

    Background: Level II background screening required.  

    Schedule: Once a week - Monday through Sunday, late afternoon, early evening shifts. Minimum of 6-month commitment required.

    Role Description: Our kitchen staff needs help stocking food, serving meals and general kitchen clean up. 

  • Life Skills Monitor(s)

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of 6 month commitment required

    Schedule: Most needed on Saturday and/or Sunday but days and times are flexible. Schedule to be determined by Life Skills Supervisor and volunteer(s).

    Role Description: This unique role affords the opportunity to monitor and interact with CHF’s residential youth, ages 18-22, engaged in recreational activities including, but not limited to, board games, watching movies, and arts and crafts. Youth will need assistance with accessing activity materials from the onsite Life Skills closet as well as engaging in activities alongside the youth while ensuring their behavior and interactions are appropriate and constructive. We also need assistance with maintaining a clean environment in the activities area.

  • Clothing Room Organizer

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of 3 month commitment required

    Schedule: Once a week - Monday through Sunday, 8:00am – 6:00pm.

    Role Description: Sort and organize clothing donations into sizes and type of clothing, placing clothing in storage area and restocking the clothing room. The ideal candidate would have a good eye for items young adults of today would want to wear. This position may include working with youth volunteers as a part of Covenant House Florida’s Heart Serve community project program in which youth can earn volunteer hours and rewards for assisting in certain areas of Covenant House Florida’s operations. This is an optional program for our youth.

  • Hair Stylist(s)

    Ongoing opportunity: Level II background screening NOT required. No minimum commitment required

    Schedule: Flexible times/days.

    Role Description: Cut and/or style youth’s hair. Must be experienced with ethnic hair and is up to date on hair style trends and styling methods for males and females.

  • Music Lessons

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of 3 month commitment required

    Schedule: Evenings - weekday or weekend.

    Role Description: Lead a small group of youth in music lessons, with instruments such as guitar or keyboard. Group may be as small as 3 youth or as large as 10 youth depending on availability of instruments and instructor preference. One (1) keyboard and three (3) guitars provided to youth by Covenant House Florida. All other instruments would have to be provided by volunteer.

  • Tutor

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of 3 month commitment required

    Schedule:Monday through Friday-Mornings 9am-11am and/or Afternoons 1pm-3pm, these times may adjust according to the needs of youth in the future. Minimum 6-month commitment required.  

    Role Description: General Education Diploma (GED) Tutor will assist youth by hosting individual tutoring sessions in Reading Comprehension bringing youth up to grade level that is needed to obtain their GED. This could be beginning at an elementary school level to a middle school educational background and assisting with content, test taking strategies among other educational needs. Volunteers must be patient and have a positive uplifting mindset.

  • Intake

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of 6 month commitment.

    Schedule: Monday through Sunday, various shifts to be determined by supervisor and volunteer(s).

    Role Description: Intake volunteers’ responsibilities will include providing agency and community resources/referrals to youth experiencing homelessness in-person and over the phone, answering external and internal calls, addressing each callers immediate needs and promoting respect, safety, and a clean and healthy environment for everyone.

  • Weekend Activities

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of 1 day a month commitment for 3 months.

    Schedule: Saturday and/or Sunday. Times to be determined by program supervisor and volunteer(s) – weekends.

    Role Description: Develop and implement small group activities during the weekend, such as ice cream socials, board game tournaments, indoor team games, etc. to be offered to youth onsite during the weekend for 1 to 2 hours.

  • Residential Floor Services

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of 3 month commitment

    Schedule: Flexible, multiple days a month.

    Role Description: Volunteers needed to help organize residential documents. Opening lockers and lounge areas. Assistance on the residential floors and monitoring youth in Life skills during meal times. Assist with clearing the rooms, taking youth to the clothing room and helping youth choose work appropriate attire.

  • Parenting Education and Support

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of a 3 month commitment

    Schedule: Flexible Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Role Description: Self-directed volunteers needed who have experience with maternal child health/education to assist our resident mothers with general parenting guidance to reinforce parenting education curriculum. Must have the ability to conduct Mommy and Me type groups, assist with organizing incentive and baby clothing closets and engaging youth during meal times. Sometimes assistance will be needed on the Female Residential floor and volunteers should be amenable to providing childcare while mother is in onsite meetings with floor staff, in therapy, completing assessments, or participating in groups or activities.

  • Administrative Support

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum 3 month commitment

    Schedule: Flexible. Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.

    Role Description: Volunteers are needed for ongoing department operations assistance to help ensure that our staff training department runs smoothly and efficiently. Duties can include: filing and organizing documents, inputting training hours in the database, creating training certificates, assisting with the Holiday Gift Drive including communication with donors, sorting Christmas presents, and gift pick-ups

  • Arts and Crafts Group Facilitator

    Background: Level II background screening required. Minimum of 1 day a month commitment for 3 months.

    Schedule: Weekday and weekend evenings, 6:30pm – 8:00pm.

    Role Description: Develop fun and approachable arts and crafts activities, and lead these activities for a group of 10 youth with staff support.

  • Recreational Outings for Moms and Children

     Background: Level II background screening required.  

    Schedule: Flexible. Minimum of 6-month commitment required.

    Role Description: This position chaperons young mothers and their children to  different outings in our community (i.e. the park, museums, or community activities for children)

Please complete the following questionnaire and we will be in contact with you regarding this position. An interview will be conducted and for some positions, a Level II background screening will be conducted. We strive to find the best candidates for these roles to ensure successful youth mentorship and outcomes.
