
Pregnancy Prevention / Teen Parent Education
MOMS (More Opportunities for Moms) provides a specialized curriculum targeting runaway and homeless youth who are pregnant or young parents. In order to maximize participation among residents who may be attending school, working, or following up on appointments or referrals, instruction is arranged according to each participant’s individual schedule and covers the following topics:
- Childbirth
- Safety
- Infant feeding including breastfeeding
- Nutrition
- Crying/comfort measures
- Baby care basics
- Child health visits and immunizations
- Signs of illness
- Adjustment to parenthood
- Domestic violence
- Other caregivers
In addition, at Covenant House’s on-site clinic, an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and a Registered Nurse provide:
- Pregnancy testing
- Health assessments for pregnant girls and young mothers and their babies
- Health education regarding pregnancy
- Health education regarding infants and toddlers
- Referrals to appropriate community health care providers and medical professionals
