Volunteer Opportunities With the special support that volunteers provide, Covenant House Florida is able to provide a wide variety of services for residents. Find out what you can do to make a difference in your community. Opportunities are available evenings, weekends, mornings, and afternoons. We are happy to discuss your schedule, your interests, and your skills and talents in order to make the match that is right for you and for the adolescents you wish to help. Employment Assistance Program (EAP) Assistant Provide one-to-one assistance to youth looking for a job. Assist youth completing job applications and resumes, practicing employment interviews, etc. With staff, develop activities for employed youth on keeping their jobs, finding better jobs, outstanding performance on the job, getting along with co-workers, etc. Tutor Provide one-to-one educational tutoring to youth working on their high school diploma, in the on-site schoolroom. Escort Transport groups of residents to off site meetings and recreational activities using the Agency van. Outreach Team with staff to meet homeless and runaway youth on the streets, providing resources and referrals, and to help them to get off the streets by coming to the shelter or another appropriate resource. Intake Team with staff to meet the needs of youth entering the shelter by providing meals, escorting youth to appointments off-site, answering the telephone and performing varied administrative duties. Clothing Room Accept incoming donations of clothing for youth, sort the clothing by size and type, and organize the clothing room. Caregiver Provide supervision and positive interaction for the children of residents (infants to 5 yrs) while their parents meet with staff and/or attend groups at the shelter or at the Community Service Center. Role model appropriate caretaking skills. Morning Assistant Assist residents to have a positive and productive day by helping them to get up, do their chores, get breakfast, get organized and to appointments on time. Assist parents of infants and toddlers by watching the children while the parent bathes and/or has breakfast. (6am to 8am) Arts & Crafts Activities Assistant Conduct art or craft project with a group of residents. Provide activity that can be completed in one session. Clerical Assist staff in a non-direct or support capacity in the donation mail office, performing data entry for special programs at the shelter and the Community Service Center, and by performing other clerical and administrative duties.
