Education, Job Readiness and Life Skills Instruction
Covenant House Florida offers job readiness training and life skills instruction through our Y.E.S. (Youth Enrichment Services) program, a comprehensive program that covers education, skill building and job readiness for youths.
Education – Most of the youths who come to Covenant House Florida do not have a high school diploma and are not currently attending school. Recognizing that education is a key component of adult success, we offer:
- Monday through Friday afternoon and evening classes toward high school equivalency
- Individual tutoring
- Testing fees
Skill Building – Many of our older youths are unable to return to their families and are eager to live on their own; however, most have either never been employed or have had short stints of employment at minimum-wage positions. To facilitate their progress from homelessness to productive lifestyles, we offer:
- Life Skills Education through intensive one-to-one case management and group counseling to foster mastery of:
- Daily living skills including appropriate personal hygiene, laundry procedures, techniques for cleaning bathrooms and living areas, and using a map and schedule to identify bus routes, and
- Self-empowerment skills including wise money management, abstinence and relationships, stress management, and positive recreation.
Job Readiness Education – This program features a curriculum of interactive classes on topics including:
- Work ethics
- Job search and interview techniques
- Resumes, cover letters, and applications
- Getting along with others on the job
- Salaries, benefits, and budgeting
